Laboratory Testing

Tensile Testing

Client Industry: Various

Result: N/A

Tensile testing is a basic type of laboratory test that can be used to determine key characteristics and properties of materials such as plastics and metals. Tensile testing can be used to identify the strength of unknown materials, compare the strength of different regions of a material, or compare a material with published strength values. Depending on the type of material, the testing and methods for may vary and are often governed by ASTM standards (e.g. ASTM E8 [Metals] and (ASTM D638 [plastics]. By performing tensile tests, engineers can obtain valuable information about a material such as the Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS), Yield Strength, Modulus of Elasticity, Engineering and True Strain, and fracture characteristics.
